The suit filed before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to disqualify Vice President Kashim Shettima has been dismissed.
The party had contended that Tinubu’s nomination of Kashim Shettima as his vice presidential candidate for the election constituted an improper use of the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) sponsorship.
When Shettima accepted the nomination for vice president on July 14, the opposition party said he was still the APC candidate for the Borno Central Senatorial District.
Judge Haruna Tsanani of the PEPT, however, decided on the case on Wednesday and stated that the APM’s suit, which involved allegations of multiple nominations for Vice President Shettima, was pre-election in nature and that it was not within its jurisdiction to consider.
The court further declared that APM lacked standing to bring cases pertaining to Shettima’s nomination and sponsorship and detailed a procedural abuse.
