The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State is under fire from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly sharing and misusing N2 billion in subsidies intended for the state’s most disadvantaged residents.
This is all the while the Department of State Services, or DSS, announced on Tuesday that certain State Emergency Management Agency officials had been detained by its agents for allegedly misappropriating palliative care intended for state residents.
The DAILY POST remembers that a few weeks prior, the federal government distributed hundreds of sacks of rice—a essential food—across 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory in an effort to lessen the impact of the loss of gasoline subsidies, especially on the most needy inhabitants.
Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary for PDP, released a statement shortly after the DSS report, accusing the ruling party of being behind the purported diversion of the palliatives.
In addition, the PDP called on the APC to apologize for what it referred to as the “misfortunes” of Yahaya Bello, the current governor.
It is inexcusable that the APC leaders danced on the graves of those who had died under the party’s ruthless eight-year rule in the State and spat in the face of the populace after reportedly receiving money from the N2b Kogi Palliative Fund.
“Our Party demands that the APC apologize to the people of Kogi State for the misfortune that was brought about by Yahaya Bello’s governance and for nominating someone like Usman Ododo for governor,” the statement continued.
The Party further characterized the APC’s claim that there was no opening in the government residence as a pitiful and illusory show of dread of the PDP’s impending victory in the upcoming gubernatorial election.
