Burna Boy sets new African record on U.S Billboard Hot 100 chart

Burna Boy, also known as Grammy-winning Nigerian musician Damini Ogulu, has broken a record by becoming the first African artist to have two singles debut on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in the same calendar year.

He accomplished the goal this week when, after spending weeks on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart, his song “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” eventually made its Billboard Hot 100 chart debut at No. 80.

The release of Burna Boy’s seventh studio album, “I Told Them,” increased the lead single, “Sittin’ On Top Of The World,”‘s sales and streams in the United States. As a result, the song entered the main chart.

“This week’s Hot 100 features ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ by @burnaboy, which debuts at No. 80,” Billboard said on its X page on Tuesday.

Burna Boy and Byron Messia’s song “Talibans II” made their Billboard Hot 100 chart debut in July of this year.

On the US Billboard 200 albums chart, Burna Boy’s seventh studio album, “I Told Them,” made its debut at position N0. 31.
