EFCC expresses shock as court convicts chairman, Bawa

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has responded to Abdulrasheed Bawa’s sentence.

In a statement, Wilson Uwujaren, who is in charge of the media, said that the anti-corruption agency was shocked by the decision.

Justice Chizoba Oji of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama found that Bawa did not follow an order from November 21, 2018.

The court had ordered the return of the Range Rover and N40 million that had been taken.

Uwujaren said that the verdict gives the wrong idea that the chairman was encouraging people to get away with things.

A spokesperson said that Bawa has been a strong supporter of the rule of law, due process, and working together between authorities in the administration of justice.

The EFCC pointed out that the FCT High Court order was made on November 21, 2018, three years before Bawa became chairman.
